I suppose that’s a relatively deceiving title, but it’s the last weekend before “summer” is “officially” over. Since summer technically goes until September 21st, I don’t want to say my final good-byes yet (so dramatic), but Labor Day weekend is really the end of my “summer season”. Maybe it has to do with years of lifeguarding and closing the beach Labor Day Monday. But I’m looking forward to an extra day of rest, and celebrating what was a truly incredible summer.
So I’ll be linking up with Heather, Katie, and Clare this week to share some things I’m looking forward to this fall season.
Marathon training means a lot of things. But probably my favorite is the never ending need for new sneakers. I know I will be ashamed when I clean out my apartment when I move next month, but I can really only squeeze 450-500 miles out of a pair of kicks. So with each training cycle comes a new pair of shoes. Here I am, officially unveiling my NYCM 2015 race day shoes. I’m obsessed.
Like I said above, I’m moving! I’m pretty excited but also quite nervous. I ended up finding a random roommate and will be moving within Stamford, down to the water. It’s a super nice apartment (I talked about it here), but I’m starting to get nerves of living with someone again. At 27 years of age, I am pretty set in my ways. After living in Philadelphia and then alone for the past 13 months, it will be a huge adjustment to learn about life with a roommate again. We shall see how it goes.
My week wouldn’t be complete without a shout out to my favorite pup around. Wednesday evenings preparations were anything but pleasant but coming home to a nice warm, cuddly dog makes everything better. This is his, “I just went swimming and totally ate a pound of sand” face.
Other things that I’m pretty pumped on:
Boston registration September 14th! Can’t believe it’s time again! I’ll try to contain my excitement : )
Hogsback 1/2 Marathon in September! It will be my first half tune-up race for this training cycle. I’m interested to see how it goes as the course is somewhat difficult (early downhills, late climbs). I love running this race since it’s local, and the post-race food is FANTASTIC. Those are my priorities.
I am also pretty pumped to run a second half marathon in October, the SoNo 1/2 in South Norwalk, CT. It is two weeks out from NYCM so it will be my “real” tune-up race.
I have a few other races planned, Colony Hot Oil 5K in Fairfield, Turkey Trot in Southport Thanksgiving morning (traditional hello!) and then potentially another half in November, just for fun.
I am also hoping to maybe squeeze in a trip to Nantucket, do some basic things like apple picking, but most importantly spend a lot of time with friends and family. I don’t know what it is about fall, but it just makes me want to get cozy on a couch and binge watch Netflix and movies with those I love.
Oh and not running in the humidity isn’t too shabby either : )
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!! xo
What races do you have planned this fall?
Tell me something random! My brain is TOTALLY fried from a long, long week.
Nice Fall races!! Love them!! A great variety! I’m running a couple half marathons October/November and some 5ks! Fall is a great time to race! Happy Friday! 💗

I am running the Baltimore half in Oct, the Annapolis half in Nov, and the Rehoboth beach half in December! Also my favorite fun race- yeh Dogfish Dash! This year it’s an 8k!!

I actually don’t have any other races scheduled in the fall but I want that to change. Other than my marathon I’m running a half in February. LOVE those shoes! Something random: I currently have 6 opened jars of nut butter. Not mad.

Well if it was me it would be “I currently finished 6 jars of nut butter… this week” haha

Good post race food makes the race in my opinion!!
I have only one half planned for this fall. Living away from home, my university town has no races at all, so it’s times like these that I really miss my hometown and all its amazing races!! (One more year until I can move back and run them all!!)
Something totally random: I had steak for lunch and for dinner yesterday. So not mad about that.

I also feel like labor day marks the end of summer…but the good news is that its still warm out so we can keep doing summery things if we want! It will be nice to have cooler temps, but I am really hoping we get actual fall weather and it doesnt go from hot to cold in a week. Have a great weekend!

Love your new kicks!!!!!
I grew up in Florida and still am not used to summer being over so quickly! One day I’ll be a snow bird 🙂

Am I the only one who isn’t sad summer is over? I want fall to be here, like, yesterday. I couldn’t be happier to say goodbye to summer…over it.
I have two 10Ks in September, a 5K in October, and then the marathon-turned-half-marathon on November 1. So as far as running is concerned, I’m just kinda hangin out this fall with nothing exciting going on. Eager for the cool temps so I can run fast again.

You have such an exciting fall season lined up! I’m so excited to see where it takes you. Big things are happening 🙂 I didn’t run a single race this summer so I’m psyched to get back into it in the fall. I’ve got two 5k’s coming up, the marathon in October, and potentially one or two half marathons in November! My sister has mentioned wanting to do another one with me so one of those would be just for fun 😀 Fall is the best!!

Good luck with moving and settling in! I’m the same way with running shoes and really need to replace promptly or I pay the price. It’s about time for a new pair that reminds me.

Oh, post race food is always high up there on the reasons to sign up! Random? I had three dentist appointments this week, 7 fillings, and it cost me over $1300. I’m trying not to die.

Labor day makes me feel like it’s the end of summer too thanks to Lifeguarding. Although the weather here is anything BUT fall-like. Moving is always a stressful experience but knowing you’re moving to a super nice place is probably helpful!!

Your dog is adorable! What’s his name? Good luck with your move, I’m sure you’ll settle back in to the roommate routine just fine 🙂

I’m doing the Sono Half too! It’s my first ever half, so i’m starting to get a little nervous.
Something random…my outfit critic (my bf) told me this morning that my shirt looked like a tablecloth, so I changed and then he told me I looked like Waldo (red/white stripes). Then when I came into work a coworker told me I looked like I came from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
Maybe I should stick with boring solids? 🙂

Cute shoes!! My next half has a similar profile- all downhill with a big hill at the end. I don’t even try to negative spilt.

Getting a roommate is scary but most times people luck out. I have lived alone for the past five years and really liked it. I just moved in with my best friend and although I was hesitant at first, it’s fun! We have totally opposite schedules, but find time to chat and catch up each day. I like the feeling that she’s there to listen but we aren’t dependent on each other. It’s a great mix.
I don’t have any solo races planned. I am doing a Ragnar Relay in the Adirondacks in a couple weeks, but that’s all I’ve got planned. I’m ok with that because it allows me to practice doing things (like running long or eating while running) without worrying about the repercussions of doing it wrong. If I bonk, I can always try again another day 🙂

Sounds like you’ve got a pretty sweet fall planned! And also that pup is absolutely adorable. I have my first half in October, but at this rate it doesn’t look like I’ll be running it, since my feet are still injured. But maybe I’ll postpone it, and run a half in November or December time before properly training through 2016 for (hopefully) a marathon.

I have three more NYRR races planned to complete my 9+1, and also the Ridgefield Turkey Trot. Then it’s hello to NYCM 2016 🙂
Also, it’s still summer.

You are busy!! I love fall races and am really excited to get the fall season started. I have a lot of 5ks in mind, a few half marathons and likely our local turkey trot as well. Good luck with the move. Living with roommates is tough, but at the same time, a great way to build new fun memories.

Those shoes ROCK! I can’t wait until I’m back in the marathon action and get to run Boston again! I’m playing my fall “racing” season by ear, depending on if I can still run, but doing a Turkey Trot would be awesome! Happy Labor Day Weekend 🙂

I only have NYC left on my schedule but I may add a 5K “tune-up” race a couple weeks out just to test my speed and get some of my race-day jitters out… we’ll see! 8 weeks!!
