It’s Almost the Weekend! #MIMM

So you may be thinking I’m crazy, but with only a three day work week, I couldn’t be more excited for the week to begin! I had a pretty awesome weekend so I’m linking up with Erin for Weekend RecapTara for Weekend Update, and Katie for Marvelous Monday to tell you all about my Marvelous Weekend.

MiMM

Although the weather was somewhat subpar all weekend, I feel like I was quite a busy bee, but in the good way. I hate when weekends fly by in a flash, but when they’re filled with great friends, family, and RUNNING(!!) I can’t complain.

Backing up to Friday, after work I met up with my friends from my lifeguarding days #Memz. It was awesome to catch up. I really miss spending my days on the beach, working on my tan, hanging out with some of my closest friends, and getting paid for it. Those were the days. Or years. A lot of years actually. 8 to be exact.

Hard at work or hardly working?

Saturday I got up, attempted to run a few easy miles to shake out my legs for Sundays race. By the time I made it to the end of the block, I knew it wasn’t happening so I turned back around and did a pilates workout, got my haircut (bye bye 4 inches) and cleaned my apartment. Hello productive morning. After that, BF and I went car shopping – and it was successful! He is now going to be the proud new owner of a Jeep! Woohoo! #Twinz.

I met up with my friend Izzy for lunch at Granola Bar and had THE BEST smoothie bowl – The Shrek (spinach, kale, banana, apple, almond milk, almond butter), tope with house made granola, strawberries, and blueberries. If I could eat this every day, I’d be a very happy girl!

Saturday night was spent eating, dancing, celebrating BF’s dad at his surprise 60th birthday party! It was absolutely gorgeous and such a fun evening. In terms of surprise birthdays, I don’t think they could be done any better!

Sunday…Fairfield half marathon, also known as D-day. Long story short, my legs felt great, my stomach was not pleased as I ended up stopping three times throughout the race. I ran without music (thanks Spotify), but the weather was absolutely perfect. I removed all “pacing” aspects from my watch and without music, really ran according to how my body felt. I finished in 1:37:07 (official clock time), my watch time (not timing the stops) had me at 1:34:49. While I’m not exactly thrilled with my time, I’m pleased that I was able to finish. And in all honestly, finish faster than I thought. After three weeks of minimal running (15 miles woof), I am happy with the result. There’s always time to get back into shape, and NYCM training starts TODAY! I will have a full race review of Fairfield posted this week.

The past two years, friends have taken the train in from NYC to run. Last year we were able to go to the beach and celebrate afterwards, but with the blah weather yesterday, we settled for a feast of lunch at Sign of the Whale. I had a yummy green salad and a side of brussel sprouts (duh). It was a great and relaxing way to refuel. Sunday night was spent making pizza for BFs family, which they loved!

Still thinking I need to open my own bakery/pizzeria… I think it wouldn’t be a weird combination at all : )

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and have a great start to your week! Short week here we come!

What are your plans for the Fourth of July!? Going to Nantucket !!

Anyone else have a short week this week?

If you could open up your own business, what would you sell?

  1. The fact that you were able to run an INCREDIBLE time with not much training shows what a natural talent you are. You are going to do big things in the NYC marathon 🙂 That smoothie has all of my favorites….I want it now.

  2. Yay catching up with old friends! Also, can you imagine if you had paced this race? Like, “hold up guys, I promise I’ll get you across in 1:40, but SURPRISE, you didn’t know this was gonna be a porta-potty obstacle half. Call it the new Tough Mudder.”

But in all seriousness, congrats on finishing! Blah races are good to have under your belt – you can whip them out as a secret mental weapon and remind yourself of your finish here to push you through another!

    Happy short week! 🙂

  3. congrats on an awesome race, you still killed it even though you havent been feeling well, I would agree yesterday was the perfect weather for running that dreaded race. I almost had FOMO. I am obsessed with any and everything from The Granola bar!

  4. That is still such a great time considering stomach issues that had you stopping and probably uncomfortable during the race! And it’s just a great time in general regardless, you should be very proud! I also recently cut my hair quite a bit for summer, it needed it for sure.

  5. Stops or not – you did an awesome job. I know it’s hard to see at times when you’ve done better, but given the circumstances.. you should be proud of yourself! 🙂

  6. I am almost positive that I saw you across the way yesterday! I considered shouting out ‘I don’t eat that!’ But…we had about 20 people between us and I didn’t want to become the crazy lady in the crowds 😉 Glad to hear that your legs felt great!

I also have a short week! Off Thursday-Sunday! It is my dad’s 60th birthday on July 4th so my sisters and I are throwing him a surprise party at a park near his house. Enjoy your short week!!

  8. Wow, that time is awesome! Congrats on a great race, though sorry about your stomach. That’s always the pits! I have a four day week and then we’re heading to Houston for a week (oof!) It’ll be fun to be there for the fourth. Nantucket sounds amazing!

  9. #Memz… that’s great. Congrats on the race, even if it wasn’t your best. You still finished strong and with a good time. The Shrek is an awesome name for a smoothie bowl, haha. And I LOVE the idea of a bakery/pizzeria.. I mean, who doesn’t want a sugary cupcake/brownie/cookie after a few salty slices of pizza?! DO IT.

  10. Congrats on your race, Jamie – woo hoo! Considering what you’ve been going through lately, I think that is an accomplishment to be celebrated and it’s still much faster than I would have done – ha! Way to get out there and get it done; I loved seeing your pics over the weekend. I’m working Monday-Thursday this week, and then I’ll be off until the Monday AFTER – woo hoo! Birthday vacation! No big plans specifically for the Fourth, but we’ll be hanging out at the lake for vacation. Um, pretty sure I would have to sell books at my store; those people need to eat, though, so I could sell some of your wares on the side. 😉 Thanks so much for linking up with the blog; hope your week is off to a great start!

  11. Hey you know, I think you had a pretty speedy half especially given everything going on for you right now! Congrats 🙂

Also cannot WAIT to start reminiscing with my lifeguard buddies from my 7+ years at the beach. Oh man I miss last summer. Although I don’t miss working July 4th. Worst day of the entire year.

SO JEALOUS YOU’RE GOING TO ACK AGAIN! And your 3-day week. We can trade lives? You come to DC/Bmore and I’ll go to Nantucket and have an extra long weekend? Sounds good to me 😉

awesome time on your half! I hope to one day get that fast 🙂

I’m heading to Cooperstown, NY for the 4th for our annual ‘Pond Party’ with college friends. Can’t wait!

  13. omg congrats on your race, that’s an AMAZING time just sayin lol. 😀
oddly enough, I used to own a donut and kolache shop a long time ago, I posted about it! it was a crazy experience but had its fun moments 😉 a pizzeria/bakery would be awesome indeed. I love thinking about new business ideas, and love that my job now is helping business owners find their perfect business locations!

  14. I would definitely come to your pizzeria/bakery so get right on that! Great race even if you weren’t feeling your best! Your “not best” is my “one day” ha! Also, I want to eat that smoothie bowl every day too. Can you make those at your new restaurant as well? 😉

  15. I know having to stop during races is frustrating but well done considering not running much prior! I can’t even remember the last time I didn’t have to stop during a race. I pretty much expect I will have to at some point, lol the new norm.
I got my hair cut a couple weeks ago and a good hair cut always makes me fee better, I hadn’t cut it since last August!

  16. Aw, sorry your stomach didn’t hold up very nicely for your race, but I’m really glad you didn’t have the added stress of pacing for it. You still came out with an amazing time and super congrats for finishing!! Hope your stomach gets with the program soon so you can train to your full potential 🙂

Funny thing is, I’ve always wanted to own a coffee shop/bakery. But then I think about the work that I’d have to do for it…and that’s never gonna happen 😉 LOL

  17. Bakery and pizzeria totally makes sense. I mean, both things involve flour and leavening agents.
I am in the process right now with opening a couple LLCs. It’s equally terrifying (hello, fear of failure) and exciting.
I’m sorry you had a rough race, but that is still such an impressive time! And yay for beginning NYCM training!

  18. How fun that you have a short week ahead of you! Enjoy your holiday break! Also, congrats on the completion of the half marathon! I think your time is amazing and you did a great job!

If I could own up my own business, I would definitely choose to open up my own bakery and sell my homemade desserts. That would be a perfect life for me. 🙂

  19. Yay for short work weeks! I was telling everyone at work “Happy Tuesday!” today and everyone was confused at first and then just smiled from ear to ear when they remembered why!! Congrats on your race! It is on my bucket list to run the NYCM! I’m so jealous!

  21. CONGRATS on the half marathon! Might not have been the time you wanted but it was a fantastic time anyway – especially since you haven’t been able to run! Killed it, sister! Um, that Granola Bar – can we talk about how jealz I am that you have something like that near you?! Our brunch places are not nearly as fun as that! Enjoy your short week and your long weekend – I’ve never been to Nantucket!! I am running a 15K locally on the 4th!!

  22. My husband and I have a short week this week! We are heading to Seattle tomorrow to spend the 4th of July on Camano Island. I can’t wait to watch the fireworks over the Puget Sound.

Have fun in Nantucket. I can’t help but think of the song when I hear the word Nantucket. 🙂

If I could open a store, it would be a fun take on desserts. For example, create your own cupcake bar where you get to pick the ratio of cake to frosting. I am a huge frosting fanatic and there is never enough!

    1. Haha OMG that is a brilliant idea. Or one type of frosting filling with another type on top… I could totally get into that type of cupcake! 🙂 hope you have a fabulous weekend!!
